【摘要】:Thistestmethodisdesignedtorankmaterialcouplesintheirresistancetothefailuremodecausedbygallingandnotmerelytoclassifythesurfaceappearanceofslidingsurfaces.Thistestmethodshouldbeconsideredwhendamaged(galled)surfacesrendercomponentsnon-serviceable.Experiencehasshownthatgallingismostprevalentinslidingsystemsthatareslowmovingandoperateintermittently.Thegallingandseizureofthreadedcomponentsisaclassicexamplewhichthistestmethodmostcloselysimulates.Othergalling-proneexamplesinclude:sealingsurfacesofvaluetrimwhichmayleakexcessivelyduetogalling;andpumpwearringsthatmayfunctionineffectivelyduetogalling.Iftheequipmentcontinuestooperatesatisfactorilyandlosesdimensiongradually,thenmechanicalwearshouldbeevaluatedbyadifferenttestsuchasthecrossedcylinderTestMethod(seeTestMethodG83).Chainbeltpinsandbushingsareexamplesofthistypeofproblem.Thistestmethodshouldnotbeusedforquantitativeorfinaldesignpurposessincemanyenvironmentalfactorsinfluencethegallingperformanceofmaterialsinservice.Lubrication,alignment,stiffnessandgeometryareonlysomeofthefactorsthatcanaffecthowmaterialsperform.Thistestmethodhasprovenvaluableinscreeningmaterialsforprototypicaltestingthatmorecloselysimulatesactualserviceconditions.1.1Thistestmethodcoversalaboratorytestwhichranksthegallingresistanceofmaterialcouples.Mostgallingstudieshavebeenconductedonbaremetalsandalloys;however,non-metallics,coatings,andsurfacemodifiedalloysmayalsobeevaluatedbythistestmethod.1.2Thistestmethodisnotdesignedforevaluatingthegallingresistanceofmaterialcouplesslidingunderlubricatedconditionsbecausegallingusuallywillnotoccurunderlubricatedslidingconditionsusingthistestmethod.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
